ISAWAD Partners with CSOs for Climate Change Adaptation


The Isabela City Water District (ISAWAD) joined the formal launching of the newly-formed Basilan Civil Society Organizations – Climate Change Adaptation (CSO-CCA) Alliance dubbed as β€œGanda Gaddung Basilan” (translated as Beautiful Green Basilan) in time for the celebration of the World Water Day 2018.

The said activity which was held last March 20, 2018 started with a motorcade around the city proper which ended at the ISAWAD  W.E.E. Care Septage Treatment Plant in Barangay Tabiawan, Isabela City.

ISAWAD GM Aleli C. Almodovar, Vice-Chairperson of the Basilan CSO-CCA Alliance, welcomed more than 200 participants from various civil society organizations, government agencies, non-government organizations and other stakeholders supporting the Alliance.

The highlight of the activity was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by the representatives of the 17 founding member-organizations of the alliance of which the ISAWAD and Maluso Water District are included. The signing ceremony was followed by the induction and oath-taking of the members led by Basilan Province First Lady Honorable Anisalang Datumanong Salliman.

Hon. Salliman in her message as the guest speaker of the launching highlighted the significance of building and forging linkages between different agencies and organizations in the Province of Basilan to reinforce action for environmental protection and climate change adaptation and mitigation. She assured the members of the strong support of the Provincial Governor Honorable Jim Hataman-Salliman and herself to the plans and programs of the Alliance.


 

A tree planting activity led by Basilan PENRO Marietta P. Ladjiman was also held within the buffer zone of the septage treatment plant. Meanwhile, the other members of the Alliance also participated in a short orientation workshop for sharing of commitments for the succeeding activities highlighting on the agenda of water supply and scarcity and the theme of the 2018 World Water Day, β€œThe Answer is In Nature,” to seek nature-based solutions to address the impacts of climate change.

ISAWAD and Maluso WD also distributed 300 water tumblers to the participants as part of the campaign for water conservation and environmental protection.
